The very HQ from which an anarchist railway worker accused of involvement in a terrorist bombing ‘fell’ to his death from the fourth floor several weeks earlier. The maniac sets about impersonating a judge sent to open a new inquiry into what happened that fateful night. His freewheeling antics expose the police involved as corrupt and their government as murderous incompetents. Rather than a heavy-handed left-wing lecture, Nobel-Prize winner Fo used a hilarious mixture of slapstick and debate to deliver this daring political farce. This skilful adaptation by ‘Men Behaving Badly’ writer Simon Nye brings proceedings terrifyingly up to date. A funny, provocative and energetic drama which leaves the final decision in the hands of the audience. Both of the options available end with somebody being blown up. Tough choice …
