The Seagull
by Anton Chekhov (trans. by Tom Stoppard)
A country house, a famous actress, her lover,
a group of family followers and friends - these are the ingredients for
Chekhov's classic drama.
Within this household, success is dreamt of
and failure dreaded, love goes unrequited and jealousy prevails.
The Seagull established Chekhov as a
revolutionary and important dramatist, while this translation by Tom Stoppard
gives the play clarity and a sharp comic edge.
