In the Studio Upstairs: The Old Masters by Simon Gray In
a library in Mussolini's Italy, two Jewish intellectuals meet at midnight
Renowned art critic Bernard Berenson and his notorious art dealer collaborator Joseph Duveen come face to face over a priceless Renaissance painting. A painting which has the power to shatter irrevocably their 30-year friendship and end their highly secret business arrangement. The two men pore over the enigmatic masterpiece as the storm clouds of war are gathering overhead. Simon Gray's play is a dramatic exploration of forgery and fraud - artistic and personal - via the real-life relationship between two of the most influential figures in European 20th Century art.
