The Spanish Golden Age

For the first time in many years, the RSC made The People's Theatre its home during its Newcastle residency in 2004. The Spanish Golden Age, artistically led by the RSC Associate Director Laurence Boswell, presented four rarely performed plays by Shakespeare’s Spanish contemporaries.

The plays in the season were chosen to give a taste of the range of styles and themes that the Golden Age authors explored. It offers an introduction to the passionate world of Spanish seventeenth century drama. It is great classical drama where you don’t know how the story ends. These plays are hot.

They performed four plays from the Spanish Golden Age Season :

The Dog in the Manger
House of Desires
Pedro, the Great Pretender
Tamar's Revenge
