 The People's Play Award 2008

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER

• A synopsis of an idea for an original play that gives information on the cast, the main themes, settings, structure and plot (no more than 500 words).

• The first 20 pages of the play.

• A CV of your writing experience to date (no more than 250 words). We know that as first-time writers this might not be very extensive but including one will help us to understand what stage you are at with your work and to judge your writing accordingly.

New Writing North promotes cultural diversity and equal opportunities for all, and would warmly welcome applications from writers from Black and minority ethnic communities and from Disabled writers, who are currently under-represented in our programme.

THE RULES OF ENTRY

•     Writers may only enter one script for the award.

•     All scripts must clearly state the name, address, email address and telephone number of the writer on the front page.

•     All work submitted must be the original work of the writer entering it.

•     Work and other supporting documentation must be submitted via email as PDF documents.

•     The submission deadline is Monday 5 November 2007. No work received after this date will be eligible for entry. Submission will only be accepted via email.

•     We will contact the shortlisted writers on 19 November and ask them to send full copies of their scripts. Writers are requested to do this by 23 November at the latest. The winning script will be selected in December and entrants contacted by the end of that month.

•     The judges' decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into with regards to the decision-making process. The winner will be presented with their £2,000 cheque on the first night of the production of their play.

•     The winning writer will be expected to work with both New Writing North and The People’s Theatre to ensure that their work is ready for production. This will include working with a script advisor and attending some of the rehearsal period of the play in March/April 2008.
