What Would You Like To Do?
In House Training
Fifteen plays a
year take a great deal of effort.
The majority of this work comes from our
membership. Many are extremely expert. However, they all had to start somewhere,
so complete beginners as well as more experienced people are always welcome in
all departments.
Acting
The People's Theatre offers its membership a unique opportunity to act in a
vast range of productions - from Brecht to Panto! You can also learn the basics
of stagecraft through our regular weekly 'ACTS' workshops.
Direction
All People's Theatre productions are produced and directed by members who,
after in house training, take up this artistic challenge.
Stage Management
All of our shows and some of the hires in the theatre are stage managed by
theatre members
Set Design & Construction
The designing of stage sets is an art form in its own right. The building of
these sets is an arcane science. Both are practised at the Peoples to a very
high standard.
Costume Design and Wardrobe
We have an extensive wardrobe facility but there always seems to be a need
to find or make new costumes.
Lighting and Sound
The theatre is extensively wired for lights and sound. Our lighting
equipment is to a professional standard and we have much modern sound equipment.
Front of House & Box office
Without an audience we would be wasting our time and so providing them with
a good service is of paramount concern.
Publicity
Letting people know what we are doing in the theatre is very important. The
design of publicity, dealing with the media and looking for corporate sponsors
are all vital tasks.
The
People's Theatre is not only a
theatre company, it's also an arts group
We have...
Calouste Gulbenkian Gallery
This
gallery exhibits the work of a range of visual artists, free of charge, during
the runs of our plays.
People's Lit
A group listening to and discussing local and national literature of all
sorts.
Young People's Theatre
Theatre fun and training for young people between the ages of 11- 18 years.
Young people interested in joining should write to Andrew De'ath at the People's
Theatre giving their age and reasons why they are interested in theatre.
The Youth Theatre has its own website
